UAAP Season 76: Deception (NU Bulldogs - DLSU Green Archers Round 1 Match Up)

NU Bulldogs (4 - 3) def. DLSU Green Archers (3 - 4) 63 - 56

I have this feeling Ray Parks is deceiving us all.

A number of people have noticed there has been a slight dip in terms of Ray Parks' performance for this season. Now the question isn't why there has been a dip in terms of his performance. I think the real question is... has his performance actually dipped?

Based on regular statistics at least, not exactly.

Based on the stats that I got from pba - online.net (you can see his full statistical log here), BRP is averaging 18.86 points a game, 9.43 rebounds a game, 4.43 assists a game, 1.29 steals a game and 0.71 blocks a game. The biggest difference is obviously, his averages in terms of points per game. His average for the first round is 2 points lower compared to his season average last year which was 20.73 points a game. Another huge difference is his field goal percentage. His FG percentage has taken a HUGE dip from 39.1% to an atrocious 29.3%. His 3 Point percentage hasn't been pretty as well only averaging 25%. Now, what makes me say that his performance hasn't really dipped as most people have said? Well other than scoring, he's being doing everything pretty well.

His rebounding has skyrocketed from 7.4 rebounds a game last year to 9.43 rebounds a game this year. For the past two games, he has averaged 13.5 rebounds, and that was against two teams with arguably the best front lines in college basketball right now. Those teams are Adamson with Ingrid Sewa and Rodney Brondial at the helm and La Salle with two beanpoles in Norbert Torres and Arnold Van Opstal plus a monster of a man in Jason Perkins. Plus, he has been racking up the dimes averaging 4.4 assists. He could have easily been averaging 5+ assists right now, but sadly, he had to take over during their game against FEU.

What's my point? NU fans shouldn't worry. Ray Ray Parks fans shouldn't worry. The rest of the UAAP... well, they should start worrying.

I have this feeling that come the second round, we will all be Witnesses to Ray Ray Parks.

Remember last year? He was trailing Karim Abdul in terms of SPs after the first round. Then all of a sudden, he want berserk.

Like I said before this season started, Ray Ray is a man on a mission. I'm pretty sure that come the second round, he will turn it up.

Maybe he took it easy so that there was less pressure on him. Maybe he did so the pressure would be placed on another player, and in this case, the player is Terrence Romeo. Maybe, he's just deceiving us all.

Something to also take note of: His efficiency for this year is actually BETTER compared to that of last year. Last year he had an efficiency of 40.82 while now his efficiency has gone up to 41.64.

Troy Mallillin is a Blue Eagle. Now what?

(Photo Credit: Janine Torre, The GUIDON) Against the JRU Heavy Bombers, Troy Mallillin finally made his much awaited debut as a Blue Eagle. Just seeing him in uniform was already enough for fans of the Blue Eagles to go wild. Seeing a NCAA Juniors MVP wear an Ateneo jersey feels weird, for any fan. Seeing a former La Salle Greenhills player wear the blue and white? It's like an Ateneo High School boy wearing a La Salle jersey. Oh.. wait... Obviously, any Atenean is brimming with excitement right now after managing to secure (or is it really secure?) the services of the former NCAA Juniors MVP. But what else are the other implications of Troy Mallillin taking his talents to Katipunan? Let's break it down: In the short term Right now, don't expect Troy to get a lot of minutes. As mentioned before , Ateneo is filled with a number of forwards in Mike Nieto, Vince Tolentino and Raffy Verano. Shaun Ildefonso is no longer in that fray of forwards after taking his talen...

The effects of Goldwin Monteverde's reported resignation from Adamson

On the afternoon of April 11, 2017, SPIN.ph reported that coach Goldwin Monteverde has resigned from his position as head coach of the Adamson Baby Falcons. Rumors of coach Goldwin's resignation has been going around High School basketball circles, so the news of the resignation didn't come as that much of a surprise for insiders. (Photo Credit: Hazel Siy) But for fans, the move came as quite the surprise. After all, the Baby Falcons were still projected to contend for a championship despite the controversial end that they had to their Season 79 campaign. They weren't losing that much key players to graduation, and the desire for redemption was the most important part in all of this. The fact of the matter is, Goldwin Monteverde could very well be going out of the Adamson basketball program. This move creates then a number of effects not just for the San Marcelino-based school, but also the rest of High School basketball.  1. The effect it has on the Adamson Ju...

At first glance, it means that you're a player who's more than ready to make it to the big leagues. You're not just expected to do well in the collegiate level. Some expect you to go ahead and dominate in an instant. Jonas Tibayan...
