Key Storylines:
The MVP Race is starting to heat up
It was already expected coming into the season that Juan Gomez de Liano would be the one leading the pack for the MVP race. However, as evidenced by the performances of the players thus far this season, Juan won't have it easy for the race for the regular season's top individual plum.
SJ Belangel is one of the players who has emerged as a lead MVP candidate, putting up monster statistics while leading a young Blue Eaglets team. John Lloyd Clemente has continued to play steadily, taking on the role as the main gun of an NU team looking to go back to back. Kenji Roman has expanded his game, taking on more of a Draymond Green-esque role for FEU rather than just staying down low. Heck, even UST's Inand Fornillos has been impressive, putting up awesome statistics all around. Did I forget to mention Adamson's ultra efficient Encho Serrano? The list goes on and on.
You've got competition Juan. There is a ton of talent in the UAAP Juniors Division. The MVP Race is turning out to be a barn-burner as the season rolls on.
The struggles of the DLSZ Junior Archers continue
Last year, time and time again did Coach Boris Aldeguer describe his system as one that is fast-paced and high octane. It's one that is designed to create a ton of points courtesy of open looks which are created due to excellent passing. This season, however, the DLSZ Junior Archers have failed to execute their high octane system.
DLSZ has never been known to be a team which has a lot of size. They're known as a team which makes up for their size by scoring a ton of points efficiently. Against the Adamson Baby Falcons, the Junior Archers were only able to score a total of 53 points, converting on only 31% of their total field goals. Not only are they not grabbing rebounds, but they're also having a difficult time scoring points.
If Zobel wants to have a chance at getting a Final Four spot, they're going to have to find an antidote for this problem quickly. Maybe Jan Sobrevega can finally find his shooting touch? Martin Romero magically turns into a big guard capable of creating for his teammates? At this point, anything which can give La Salle hope for the Final Four.
