Quick Fire: The young NU Bulldogs showcase depth versus scrappy UE Red Warriors

(Photo Credit: Arvin Lim, ABS-CBN Sports)

Final Score: NU Bulldogs def. UE Red Warriors 86-69

Notable Players:

Dave Yu, NU (14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals): This was his breakout game, showing fans he can be a solid contributor for this young NU team. His outside shooting is going to be key for this NU team with few options from beyond the arc.

J-Jay Alejandro, NU (11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals): Coach Jamike has always relied on one guard to lead his teams, and for NU, J-Jay Alejandro is his guy. Showed he's so much more than just a spot-up shooter in this game with an all-around line.

Alvin Pasaol, UE (14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 6 turnovers): That stat line encapsulates what Pasaol is to this UE team. He'll try to do everything, maybe even to a fault, but it won't be enough to give UE any big wins.

Quick Analysis:

- Lots of fans described the game as sloppy, and you couldn't blame them for doing so. A combined 51 turnovers between the two squads, and managing to only put up 86 and 69 points despite the breakneck pace the game was at (97.82).

- NU is a sneaky deep team. Not the most talented, but they have a lot of options who they can throw at you. J-Jay Alejandro is their main man, but he has a lot of help behind him in games where his shooting is betraying him.

- The UE Red Warriors are one of the toughest teams in the league. Not in the way where, they're a contender. They're a team that will be very tough to blow out because of how gritty they are as a team. They're that barangay team full of nobodies but still manage to give that team full of varsity players from the big private schools trouble. They won't win many games because of their sheer lack of talent, but they'll make teams work for it.

- As sloppy as this game was, this may be the norm for most games. Lots of teams were already playing press last year, and now you add into the fray the Bulldogs with Jamike Jarin. Fast paced games are fun. But sprinkled in with turnovers and bad shots? That's like putting pineapples on a well-done pizza (Sorry pineapple on pizza fans).

They weren't losing that much key players to graduation, and the desire for redemption was the most important part in all of this. The fact of the matter is, Goldwin Monteverde could very well be going out of the Adamson basketball program. This move creates then a number of effects not just for the San Marcelino-based school, but also the rest of High School basketball.  1. The effect it has on the Adamson Ju

Open Letter To The San Miguel Beermen

NOTE: This article isn't exactly in a form of a letter. The look of frustration beckons. (credits to Interaksyon.com)             To be honest, I have never been a die hard San Miguel Beermen fan until the season of their Governors’ Cup championship against the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters. Sure, they were my very first favorite PBA team, but the only reason for that was because Olsen Racela’s son was a friend and a batch mate. Despite that though, SMB has been my top favorite team. I may root for Alaska, RoS and at times Air 21, but the San Miguel Beermen will always be my top team.             The very first time that the Beermen broke my heart was when they lost an epic 7 game series against the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters in the 2012 Philippine Cup, back when they were still called the Petron Blaze Boosters. Despite that, I still continued to root for the team. Yet, heart break stil came. And another. And another. Then Renaldo Balkman chokes away Petron’s champion
