DLSU Green Archers def. UE Red Warriors 106-100

Notable Players

Alvin Pasaol (49 record breaking points, 8 rebounds, 4 offensive rebounds, 4 steals): The best player from the winning team usually gets mentioned first, but we make exceptions.  Alvin Pasaol's phenomenal all-game, all around game almost brought out the upset banner by pummeling on Mayhem repeatedly.  Thriving on press breaks and defense that gambles a lot on passing lanes, Pasaol had a holiday taking all-day shots or barreling in abusing the compromised interior defense of La Salle. As if the prolific scoring was not enough, Pasaol crashed the board and scored 8 points off second chances and shared the ball when La Salle defenses collapsed.  In the second quarter alone, Pasaol was the lone ranger scoring all of UE's field goals.

Ben Mbala (39 points, 10 of 12 from the field (85%), 91% from 2-point zone, 95%  freethrow percentage, 15 rebounds, 4 offensive rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks): Incredible record numbers for the La Salle star who abused a UE team who went import commando for the season.  Capitalizing on the newfound offensive fluidity, Mbala made purposeful cuts and strong moves to the basket. Mbala has been thriving in a pass-happy Archers offense as other numbers stacked up as well.

Abu Tratter (24 points, 10 rebounds, 6 offensive rebounds): A double-double for Mbala's not-so-better half in the DLSU frontline. Tratter tag teamed with Mbala in piercing a very open UE offense and pitched in 14 points when it mattered most, the final quarter.  When UE made a critical final attack on their last breath to trim the once mighy 18 point lead to 4 at 104-100 Tratter drained the insurance bucket to preserve peace.

Quick Analysis

-  Pasaol's Green Archers bloodlust was let loose once more and almost repeated what transpired in Season 79.  Pasaol relentlessly attacked a stretched DLSU Mayhem defense and opened up to a single-coverage defense.  The result, record-breaking 49 points.  Moreover, Mayhem excessively gambles which gives outside-deadly inside player like Pasaol and UP's Paul Desiderio to feast on Mayhem.

-  UE cannot win without an import.  Either with deliberate insistence on by a factor of circumstances, the Red Warriors could not win even with their best player scoring half of the team's production.  Mbala and Tratter attacked the lane with ease and the vertically challenged UE Warriors had no choice but to send Mbala to the line 20 times.  Mbala connected on 19 of those 20 free throws.  De La Salle also won the wars on the boards with a whopping 48-29.

- The Green Archers seemed to be developing better cohesion and registered another high in assist at 28.  Andrei Caracut has been effective in directing the offensive flow.

-  La Salle has yet to develop that killer instinct that would shred an opponent who has been wobbling at end game.  Leading by 25 at one point and 104-86 in the last 3 minutes, UE was allowed to slash the lead and threatened 104-98 until Tratter banked in the game clincher.  As complacency is the biggest enemy of strong teams, La Salle is no exception so far.

The effects of Goldwin Monteverde's reported resignation from Adamson

On the afternoon of April 11, 2017, SPIN.ph reported that coach Goldwin Monteverde has resigned from his position as head coach of the Adamson Baby Falcons. Rumors of coach Goldwin's resignation has been going around High School basketball circles, so the news of the resignation didn't come as that much of a surprise for insiders. (Photo Credit: Hazel Siy) But for fans, the move came as quite the surprise. After all, the Baby Falcons were still projected to contend for a championship despite the controversial end that they had to their Season 79 campaign. They weren't losing that much key players to graduation, and the desire for redemption was the most important part in all of this. The fact of the matter is, Goldwin Monteverde could very well be going out of the Adamson basketball program. Troy Mallillin is a Blue Eagle. Now what?

(Photo Credit: Janine Torre, The GUIDON) Against the JRU Heavy Bombers, Troy Mallillin finally made his much awaited debut as a Blue Eagle. Just seeing him in uniform was already enough for fans of the Blue Eagles to go wild. Seeing a NCAA Juniors MVP wear an Ateneo jersey feels weird, for any fan. Seeing a former La Salle Greenhills player wear the blue and white? It's like an Ateneo High School boy wearing a La Salle jersey. Oh.. wait... Obviously, any Atenean is brimming with excitement right now after managing to secure (or is it really secure?) the services of the former NCAA Juniors MVP. But what else are the other implications of Troy Mallillin taking his talents to Katipunan? Let's break it down: In the short term Right now, don't expect Troy to get a lot of minutes. As mentioned before , Ateneo is filled with a number of forwards in Mike Nieto, Vince Tolentino and Raffy Verano. Shaun Ildefonso is no longer in that fray of forwards after taking his talen
